The theme for Future Lights 2016 is Incorporating the qualities of hand-crafted work into industrially produced ceramics
Background
Contemporary consumers are looking for objects which, although mass produced, appear to be unique.Qualities associated with handmade items (e.g. irregular forms, maker’s marks, etc.) are held in highesteem and can add value to industrially produced ceramics. This trend can be seen to great effect inthe work of Masahiro Mori.
What are the judges looking for?
In 2016, the Future Lights judges want to discover early career professionals with knowledge
(practical or research) of craft and studio processes that could be successfully applied to industrial production.
Who can apply?
We are looking for people in the early stages of a career in ceramics including but not restricted to:
• Artists
• Designers
• Historians
• Art Historians
• Curators
• Scientists/researchers
Applicants should be EU residents at the time of applying and have graduated from their main full time studies within the last 5 years. Applicants should have expertise, experience or innovative ideas that respond to the theme, as described above.
