"It was hard work, to investigate new technologies, getting in the new world of film and theatre, but in the end, with much help from many people, we managed to make 'Real Time' a big success. According to many people, it was the best exhibition of Milan 2009, see Dezeens top 10." About Real Time Maarten Baas became a film director for the occasion of the Milan Design Week 2009. Thanks to new technologies in video, it's possible to make movies of 12- or even 24 hours in length. This makes it possible to film a movie that can function as a clock. Maarten Baas uses this option, by combining theatre, art, film and design in a series of new clock designs. The Dutch artist-designer made 3 movies dealing with the passing of time, shot and mounted in The Netherlands in February and March 2009, with the help of the Mondriaan Foundation and the Brabants Kenniscentrum Kunst en Cultuur (BKKC). 'Real Time' was hosted by C'N'C Costume National and curated / produced by Diana Marrone in a space of over 500m2. To get a good impression of Real Time, please click on the following links to see the movies: 'Grandfather Clock' On the screen, which is an integrated part of a Grandfather Clock, there is a film of a man, drawing the hands of a clock. 'Sweepers Clock' In this movie some people are making the hands of a clock, by sweeping garbage all day long. 'Analog Digital' The LED lights are managed by someone who either paints them to make them dark, or wipes them clean to have the red light shine through. 'World Clock' This is how the exhibition looked, starting with the 'World Clock' , in which people in three different countries are indicating the local time, using their daily things to be the hands of a clock. And this is what the furniture part of the exhibition looked like. Real Time at Art Basel / Design Miami The above links give a nice glimpse of what the exhibition in Milan looked like. But the real movies will be shown in Basel at Art Basel / Design Miami. Design Basel / Miami will host Real Time from June 8th to June 13th, in collaboration with the Zuiderzeemuseum. Currently we're working on reconstructing the farm (which you can see on the first photo in this message), to change it into a design studio. By accident a wrong new address has been spread.
